You arrive by public transportation. The hotel reminds you to turn off the lights in your room to conserve energy. Workshop materials are printed double-sided with soy or vegetable-based inks. As a name tag, you wear your own business card inserted in a reusable name tag holder, which is collected as you leave.
Coffee is served in reusable mugs embossed with the workshop name and sponsor. Sugar and cream are served from a covered sugar bowl and a small chilled creamer. Bite sized breakfast snacks and fresh fruit are served on small reusable plates, and you are even asked to throw your discarded food items in a worm composting bin.
This workshop took place April, 1992 in Montgomery County, MD.

As defined by the EPA, environmentally aware meetings and events "are those planned in such a way as to eliminate, reduce, or recycle waste". They also positively contribute to the environment and host communities.
You don't have to believe in global warming to see that green meetings and events can save time and money. For example, collecting name badge holders for reuse, reducing paper use and recycling used exhibit booths and materials are just some of the ways green meeting practices can enhance your cost-effectiveness.
The KelJoy Group believes, until greener alternatives become the norm, it is up to each of us to lead by example. We encourage clients and vendors, to help protect our natural resources by implementing as many Green Meeting Policies as possible.
